Title: Students’ interpretations of Japanese values reflected in the dialogue
Abstract: Learning a new language involves more than just learning vocabulary and grammar. Understanding the culture and values behind everyday conversations is also essential for effective communication. Even when students understand the words in a conversation, they may not fully understand the cultural values that influence what people say and how they behave. In this presentation, I will explore how students learning Japanese interpret cultural behaviors and values reflected in Japanese textbook dialogues, highlighting the importance of teaching language and culture together.
