Ball State students age 18 or older are invited to participate in a research study led by the Center for Economic & Civic Learning examining students’ experiences with civic engagement, campus involvement, and community participation. The goal is to better understand what supports student voice, leadership, and meaningful engagement during college.
Participation in this study is voluntary. You may choose not to participate or may stop participation at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. Your decision to participate or not participate will not affect your academic standing, grades, financial aid, employment, or relationship with the university.
If you choose to participate, you will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey that takes approximately 10–15 minutes.
Incentives: Only the first 200 students who complete the survey will receive a $25 e-gift card. All students who complete the survey, including those who are not in the first 200, will be entered into a $500 e-gift card drawing. Providing contact information is optional and is not required to complete the survey. Contact information will be stored separately from survey responses, will not be linked to your answers, and will be used solely for incentive distribution. All contact information will be deleted after incentives are distributed.
Risks and Benefits: There are no foreseeable risks beyond those encountered in everyday life. You may skip any question that makes you uncomfortable. There are no direct personal benefits to participating; however, your responses may help improve civic learning opportunities and campus engagement practices.
Confidentiality: Survey responses are anonymous. No identifying information will be collected as part of the survey. Any contact information provided for incentive purposes will be stored separately from survey responses and will not be shared. Results may be reported in aggregate form for research, reporting, or publication purposes.
This research study has been reviewed and approved by the Indiana University Institutional Review Board (IRB), with Ball State University participating as a relying site under the SMART IRB Reliance Agreement.
