As we prepare for an extended period of extreme cold temperature, Facilities Planning and Management is implementing additional preventative measures to help protect campus buildings and infrastructure.

We rely on the partnership of our campus community during periods of extreme cold. We kindly ask that faculty, staff, and occupants take a moment each day to ensure that exterior windows in their areas are fully closed. If you encounter a window that will not close properly, please contact Work Control at 285 5081 so it can be addressed promptly.

In parallel, Facilities teams are taking additional steps in certain building areas that are more susceptible to freezing. During prolonged cold events, ceiling plenum spaces above vestibules can experience freezing conditions where piping is present. To allow warmer building air to circulate into these spaces, custodial teams will be temporarily adjusting select ceiling tiles and propping vestibule doors open in affected locations. These measures help reduce the risk of freezing during sustained low temperatures. Our teams will also be verifying that vestibule heaters are operating properly and will continue monitoring buildings throughout the cold weather period. All temporary measures will be fully restored once temperatures stabilize.

If you notice any other facility related concerns during this cold spell, Work Control is always available to assist at 285 5081.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for taking a few extra moments to help care for and protect our campus. Your support truly makes a difference.

Stay warm and safe,
Rodney Nassiri
