WHAT IF YOUR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS HAD $2,500 TO GIVE AWAY?

What would they do with it? Who would they help? How would they decide? And what might they learn along the way?

Student Philanthropy gives Ball State faculty the opportunity to put real philanthropic dollars into the hands of their students and build a learning experience around deciding how and where those dollars can make an impact.

This fall, faculty from across the University are invited to participate in a hands-on Student Philanthropy workshop. Rather than simply hearing about the program, you’ll experience a glimpse of what your students might encounter: exploring community needs, learning about nonprofit organizations, wrestling with competing priorities, and making thoughtful decisions about where philanthropic dollars can have a meaningful impact.

During the workshop, we’ll explore how Student Philanthropy might fit within your course, your discipline, and the learning outcomes you are already pursuing.

Student Philanthropy is a high-impact, community-engaged teaching strategy that can be integrated into existing undergraduate courses across every college and discipline. Students research community issues and nonprofit organizations, engage with community partners, present their findings, and collectively decide how to distribute donor-funded dollars. Along the way, they apply course content while strengthening skills in research, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, leadership, civic engagement, and decision-making.

Come learn about the program, kick around ideas with colleagues from across campus, and explore how Student Philanthropy might complement what you are already doing in your course.

Successful participation will earn you $250 in your RIA and includes:

  • One-hour introductory meeting via Zoom on October 22 at 2:00 p.m.
  • In-person workshop over catered lunch on Thursday, November 5, from 12:00-3:00 p.m.
  • Participants must be able to attend the in-person workshop and complete and submit final program deliverables by the end of the semester.

Open to faculty teaching undergraduate courses from all colleges and disciplines. Spaces are limited. Register here by Oct 19: https://ballstate.infoready4.com/#freeformCompetitionDetail/2036152
