Happy American Heart Month! This week, we are focusing on diabetes, one of the biggest risk factors for heart disease. One in three American adults have prediabetes, which means having higher blood sugar levels but not high enough to be called Type 2 Diabetes. In this specific group, 84% of the people don’t even know that they are prediabetic. Are you at risk? Take the CDC’s free risk test. https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/risktest/index.html

One way to decrease your risk for diabetes is to engage regularly in physical activity 3 or more times a week. Try something you enjoy. Go for a walk, bike ride, dance, strength training, or a yoga class. Remember exercise can be fun and a great stress reliever!

If you are at risk for Type 2 Diabetes, check out the Diabetes Prevention Program being offered through the Healthy Lifestyle Center. It starts March 1.
