The Preview Party is new for the book sale.
“For those willing to pay a $5 admission fee for the Preview Party, they will get a first look at the merchandise and opportunity to buy before opening day,” said Sheryl Swingley, president of AAUW-Muncie Branch.
The Preview Party is open to the public.
Only cash and checks are accepted throughout the book sale.
The official opening of the book sale, which is free (no admission fee) and open to the public, is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23. The sale will resume after Memorial Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29.
Saturday, May 30, is the last day of the sale. Hours are shorter on the last day – 9 a.m. to noon.
“On the last day of the sale, shoppers can buy as big a bag of items as they can carry for $10,” Swingley said. “And even on the last day, we still have tons of items to choose from.”
Each year, merchandise stocked on and under at least 30 tables are available to shoppers.
“This year we have received an exceptional and much appreciated gift from an estate,” said Sheryl Swingley, president of AAUW – Muncie Branch. “The gift includes large collections of science fiction and fantasy, fiction – both classic and contemporary novels, histories, cookbooks and coffee-table books. The majority of these books are hardback.”
In addition, there are children’s books, western novels, along with numerous paperbacks and hardback books by popular authors.
Other categories of books include biographies, mysteries, history, religion, opinion, self-help, travel, classics, poetry, environment, and crafts and hobbies.
Also, there are numerous puzzles, CDs and DVDs.
Overall, paperbacks are sold for $1 a pound and most hardbacks are $2 each. Some items have special pricing. CDs are $1 each and DVDs are $2 each. Puzzles are $2, $3 and $4, depending on the number of pieces.
Donations to the sale may continue to be made until 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 27.
During the sale, free parking will be available for attendees in the Ball State Alumni Center parking lot.
Proceeds from the sale benefit the Muncie Branch of AAUW, aauw.org. The Muncie Branch of AAUW uses its proceeds to support its nontraditional student scholarships and the operations of the Muncie Branch. For the 2026-27 school year, the group will award three $1,500 scholarships to Delaware County residents attending Ball State University or Ivy Tech Community College.
Ball State is an affiliate member of AAUW.
