Society's complex challenges require innovative research approaches that unite researchers, policymakers, community leaders, and industry stakeholders to identify evidence needs and utilize knowledge to achieve common goals. Although there is momentum toward a collaborative research ecosystem, institutional capacities to support engaged research have not kept pace with demand.

Publication Summary: The Board on Science Education at the National Academies organized a workshop, "Building Institutional Capacity for Engaged Research," online on June 13-14, 2024, in Washington, D.C. Leaders from various research sectors shared ideas and innovations to enhance institutional capacity for engaged research. They proposed strategies for coordination and capacity building to advance this research. This publication summarizes the workshop discussions and presentations.
