VIA Character Strength Spotlight: Creativity

August 03, 2020

Creativity is one of 24 universal character strengths and is within the virtue category of wisdom. Creativity involves originality and usefulness. It is about seeing and doing things in new and different ways. It is one of the most common strengths in young children. You may spot this strength in someone who shares new ideas at each meeting or is able to brainstorm easily.

Is this one of your top strengths? Take the free VIA survey to get a rank order report of all 24 character strengths.

Develop your character strength of creativity by using it in new ways. “Push your brain to think more creatively by coming up with at least seven different solutions to problems you may be trying to solve at work.” When we push ourselves to look beyond the obvious, we may find the solution we weren’t expecting.

VIA character strengths are a family of positive personality traits reflected in our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. They are basic building blocks of a flourishing life and serve as pathways to PERMA wellbeing.
