The Office of Research is excited to announce that we will be changing software platforms for our Human Subjects Project (IRB) review over the next academic year. I am very pleased to let you know that we are going to be moving to the Cayuse Human Ethics platform for protocol review. Feel free to register with Cayuse in order to explore their Human Ethics FAQs, forums, and tutorials. However, have no fear, we’ll also offer training and tips out of our office as we implement the new software.
This does not mean that IRBNet is going away immediately! Please continue to submit new protocols on IRBNet.org throughout this fall term. And please be aware that when we do switch to accepting and even requiring new protocols in Cayuse, we will still finish reviewing any protocols in IRB.net that you submitted during the transition. Some things we really like about the Cayuse platform is that:
- it seamlessly integrates your CITI trainings automatically
- it allows for SSO (single-sign on) using your Ball State credentials
- it allows you (and us) to clearly track and see any changes you make to protocols after initial office and IRB reviews
As you start preparing for the transition, we ask that you download any application materials for your current active protocols in IRB.net, so you have those on hand in case you need to reference them. We won’t be uploading those materials into the new system. We will be tracking all approved protocols and they will remain active if approved, but you won’t transition them to the new system unless you are submitting a renewal or modification of an active protocol. In this case, you will want your original documentation saved so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel for yourself.
We plan to provide regular updates to you during this process, but feel free to reach out to Stephanie Simon-Dack directly if you have questions (slsimondack@bsu.edu)!
