Trimmer Thesis Prize Winners Announced

April 16, 2020

Congratulations to Autum Auxier and Harriet Legan, winners of the 2020 Joe and Carol Trimmer Awards for Outstanding Honors Thesis or Project. They are each the recipient of a $1,200 scholarship.

Autum Auxier is a biology (zoology) major. Her thesis, Short- and long-term effects of exposure to harmful algal blooms on sensorimotor integration, was selected as the research thesis winner. Jessica Ward, assistant professor of animal behavior in the Department of Biology, was her project advisor.

Harriet Legan is a speech language pathology and French major. Her thesis, A World Full of Wonders | Un Monde plein de merveilles: A Bilingual French-English Children's Book with Speech Therapy Activities, was selected as the creative project winner. Teresa McClain, clinical lecturer in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, was her project advisor.

Thanks to the generosity of Professor Joe Trimmer and his late wife, Carol, two scholarships are awarded each year. One is for a research thesis; one is for a creative project. Project advisors nominate Honors College students for these awards. A committee appointed by the Dean of the Honors College selects winners.
