The Impact of Caffeine and E-Gaming on Heart Health-Participants Needed

Are you a gamer? Come play 2 hours of Overwatch or Valorant as we investigate the impact of gaming and caffeine on heart health. 

Who: 

  • Healthy individuals aged 18-35
  • Non-smokers, without any known cardiovascular, pulmonary, or metabolic disease
  • Taking no medications that affect blood clotting 
  • Gaming experience with use of mouse and keyboard
  • Female participants must have had regular menstrual cycles for the past 3 months 

What:

We are studying cardiovascular responses to caffeine and e-gaming

  • You will sit at a desk with a monitor, mouse, keyboard, and headset for 2 hours playing Valorant or Overwatch
  •  Blood samples will be taken before and after gaming bout
  • During each visit you will consume either caffeine or a placebo
  • You will be asked to avoid food and drink other than water for 8 hours, caffeine, exercise, nicotine, and alcohol for 24 hours prior to each lab visit.
  • Expected time commitment is two lab visits (~3.5 hours each, separated by at least 24 hours)

  • Health and Physical Activities Building, Ball State Universitty
  • Integrative Exercise Physiology Laboratory
  •  Parking is available if coming from off campus
