The precise, three-dimensional structure of a protein is deeply connected to the performance of its cellular function. The crowded environment of the cell presents a challenge to proper protein folding as these dynamic proteins may tangle and aggregate. Cells are equipped with diverse chaperones that assist in protein quality control.
