For this year's Cory Speaker Series the theme is Counterstory, and the English Department is hosting Dr. Aja Martinez.
As part of the series, she will be delivering a keynote presentation and conducting a workshop.
Keynote: "The Craft of Counterstory: Writing Critical Race Theory"
Thursday, October 21st from 3:00-4:30 p.m. in the Student Center 237 and on Zoom
This talk on the rhetorics and writing of critical race theory (CRT) and counterstory methodology will review the development of CRT from its origins in the field of law and through its foundations in civil rights scholarship and feminist thought. By engaging this rich history, we will demonstrate how critical race theory and methodology inform education, research, and writing/publishing of counterstory. This talk will also explore CRT’s contemporary applications for analyzing colorblind racist rhetorics and practices, identity, national politics, and institutional policy.
