"The American Religious Sounds Project" presentation on Tuesday, 12/7 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom

December 06, 2021

The Philosophy and Religious Studies department welcomes Amy DeRogatis of Michigan State University and Isaac Weiner of Ohio State University to discuss the American Religious Sounds Project (religioussounds.osu.edu—browse the site before joining us!), a collaborative initiative to document the sounds of American religious life.

After offering some brief background about the project, they will concentrate on how COVID has transformed their research. For the past year and a half, the ARSP team has collected hundreds of audio recordings from across the country documenting some of the ways Americans adapted their religious practices during this time of global pandemic. We’ll share some examples with you and discuss what they tell us about shifting notions of religious authority and community. We’ll also let you know about some ways you can get involved in the project yourself.
