We are happy to announce a new program, open only to our first- and second-year students and transfer students in the first year, where students work directly with a faculty mentor on a research or creative project.

Deadline April 9th

About the Teacher-Scholar Program
  • Each student receives a $750 stipend for the semester-long, 5-hour a week commitment, in fall 2020, spring 2021, or summer 2021 (this will be arranged with the mentor)
  • The faculty mentor receives $250 that can be used in support of travel, supplies, and professional development
Eligibility
  • 1st and 2nd year and transfer students in their first year
  • Students do not need to find a faculty mentor! The mentors were nominated by their Deans. We will introduce students and faculty mentors or help set up meetings so they can discuss the projects.
How students apply
  • Students can learn about the mentors and the projects here - https://www.bsu.edu/-/media/www/departmentalcontent/spo/pdfs/new%20website/2021mentorsummaries.pdf?la=en&hash=53E8FD6429C33B4B84E50815DB97E3BEDBF6C947
  • Students then email and meet with a faculty mentor they have selected to discuss projects and mentorship
    • For help creating the email, putting together the application or any other questions about the Program, we are holding office hours with the Vice Provost for Research, West Quad 100, from 4:00-5:00, on the following days.
