Summer I Course: SOC100 Principle of Sociology

April 28, 2020
May 11 – June 14, 2020
SOC100-810 (Ref# 34043)

This is an introductory course in sociology that is designed to provide students with the ability to view the world using the sociological perspective. This course will introduce students to basic sociological concepts and techniques, as well as provide a greater understanding of social organization, social stratification, social institutions, and how (and why) social change occurs.

Note that the course work of this class also contains a COVID-19 component so that students would capitalize on their own immersive experiences to learn about the non-biological causes of this pandemic, how this disease affects several segments of the population differentially, possible trajectories of this on-going global crisis, and its political and social aftermath.

The instructor of this course, Dr. Jun Xu, is a full professor of sociology at Ball State University. He has conducted extensive research in the areas of Asia, comparative sociology, race relations, and social epidemiology. His interdisciplinary expertise and international/comparative lens would add provocative and scintillating ingredients to the learning experiences of those who are inquisitive and motivated. Don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Xu (jxu@bsu.edu) should you have any questions or concerns.
