Study abroad on a road trip through Canada this summer!

GEOG480 Distant Areas Field Studies is a course in the Department of Geography and Meteorology focused on taking students to remote physical, economic, and cultural landscapes. This June of 2024, students will road trip through southeastern Canada and northeastern United States. Students will learn about cultural heritage sites, travel and tourism, historical geography, geomorphology, rural-to-urban development, gentrification, and the importance of the North American Great Lakes. Notable cities and attractions include Pelee National Park, Toronto, Kingston, Thousand Islands National Park, Montreal, Quebec City, Bangor, Portland (ME), Acadia National Park, Portsmouth, Cooperstown (MLB Hall of Fame), Finger Lakes, Niagara Falls, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland.

Projected cost: under $4,000, includes tuition for 6 credits.

Accessibility note: Walking requirement on flat and paved terrain over distances of at least 5 miles or 2 hours of duration at a time (up to twice daily). Walking/hiking requirement on surfaces of moderate difficulty over distances of at least 3 miles or 2 hours of duration at a time (up to twice daily).
