Ball State’s Spring Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 2, will include several important safety measures to help create a smooth and safe experience for graduates and guests. Everyone attending should review the University’s Safety and Security at Commencement page before arriving:

A clear bag policy will be in effect for all commencement ceremonies, including those held on the Quad, in Worthen Arena, and in Emens Auditorium. Permitted bags include clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags no larger than 12" x 6" x 12"; small clutch bags no larger than 4.5" x 6.5"; and one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags.
Guests and graduates should also note that backpacks, large purses, coolers, mesh bags, tinted plastic bags, and outside food and beverages are not allowed.
All guests and graduates should expect screening at entry and should arrive early to allow enough time for lines. Gates and doors open one hour prior to the start of each ceremony. Personal property and privacy will be respected throughout the screening process.
Helpful reminders:
• Review the clear bag policy and prohibited items list before arriving.
• Keep personal items to a minimum.
• Plan to arrive early to allow time for screening. Gates and doors open one hour prior to each ceremony.
• Check the Spring Commencement webpage for updates, especially in the event of severe weather.
If severe weather affects Commencement plans, updates will be shared through the official Ball State website, University social media channels, RAVE alerts, on-site announcements, and local media outlets.
