Educational Studies has several courses to help you complete your program plans of study. The courses are intended to address the existing and continually evolving educational landscape. Whether this is through educational technology courses in distance education, EdTec policy, digital & visual literacy, these courses will help you develop your knowledge and skills while also making progress toward the completion of your program.

EDTE 675: Distance, Flexible, and Blended Education

Examines the historical, theoretical, technological foundations of distance and flexible education. Students investigate the changing landscape of distance education as well as the increased educational and instructional opportunities for learners and teachers. Students develop instructional plans for teaching at a distance and policy recommendations for implementing distance education programs.

EDTE 665: Digital & Visual Literacy

More and more web-based technologies are allowing us to connect and express ourselves in different and unique ways! At the same time, these technologies are raising several questions about privacy, security, and societal change.  EdTec 665 will focus on how teachers, students, and schools can harness different web-based technologies for learning, collaboration, engagement, and teaching. Major topics of the semester include digital storytelling, virtual & augmented reality, game design, digital citizenship, and artificial intelligence.

EDTE 670: Educational Policy and Pedagogy

Technology will continue to change and play a large role in the education of tomorrow’s students, teachers, and administrators. The modern teacher needs to be well-versed in how national, state, and local policies about technology will impact their use of technology in the classroom. During your time in EdTec 670 you will investigate how these policies can develop the conditions necessary for teachers to integrate technology effectively. You will also examine the social, ethical, and legal issues raised when schools and teachers bring technology into their instructional contexts.
