Schools have increased their expectations that new teachers will be able to integrate technology throughout their instructional practices. This is more than just knowing how to use technology; it requires teachers to think critically about when and how best to utilize technology to support student learning. Are you ready to accept these realities of teaching and looking for a teaching position in today’s job market? 

Being able to integrate technology in meaningful ways will set you apart from others seeking teaching positions today! It allows for creative engagement within a variety of content areas and creates unique ways for K12 students to demonstrate mastery of knowledge. It also demonstrates to potential employers that you are entering the classroom prepared to work with students no matter the mode of instruction. 

The Educational Technology Program is offering two outstanding course opportunities for undergraduate students in the coming Spring 2025 semester!!! 

Three awesome on campus courses will spice up your fall schedule! EDTE 250, EDTE 255, and EDTE 370, offer fun and creative opportunities for students to learn about technology, its integration within your instructional practice, and how it is changing schools.

Educational Technology Minor

We encouraged you to learn about how technology is affecting the instructional contexts of schools by getting involved with the Educational Technology Program!

You may want to consider adding a Minor in Educational Technology to your program of study. 

The minor is a 15-credit program that prepares candidates to integrate technology in the classroom. Students explore new and emerging technologies that support learning and teaching and discover how technology within a teachers’ instructional practice can improve learning and teaching.

The minor in educational technology can easily be added to your program of study, and demonstrate to employers that you are ready to enter the classroom prepared to use technology with your students. 

 

EdTec 250: Curriculum Integration of Technology

Whether you will teach kindergarten or high school seniors, schools expect teachers to help students learn through effective technology integration. Examine how to integrate technology and design instructional unit’s that meet your content area standards. EdTec 250 prepares you to be an instructional leader with technology within the contexts where you will teach. Students will apply a variety of technology integration frameworks and standards to develop their knowledge and philosophy to support student learning with technology.  

 

EDTE 255: Learning and Teaching with Emerging Technologies

EDTE 255: Learning and Teaching with Emerging Technologies is part of the BSU Core Curriculum and a required course for students pursuing the Educational Technology Minor.  

Ball State students are members of a global community where they are no longer constrained by borders or buildings, and use various technologies ubiquitously. Emerging technologies are creating opportunities for students and teachers to redefine the formal and informal educational contexts where learning occurs, and offers new ways for us to explore a variety of content. Through active engagement with these technologies, students learn to critically examine how emerging technologies are changing the ways we learn and teach.

Course content focuses on how people learn, creativity, and how new and emerging technologies can be used within schools and other contexts to support learning. Students will explore a variety of new technologies including 3D printing, augmented and virtual Reality, 3D digital environments, and create several artifacts and activities using these technologies.  

Whether you are in the teacher education program, interested in professional development, or just curious about how different technologies are being adopted within different professions, this class is for you! 

 

EDTEC 370: Technology Policy and Ethics

Class Meets: W 2:00 – 4:40

Technology will continue to change and play a large role in the education of tomorrow’s students, teachers, and administrators. It is essential for the modern teacher to be well versed in how national, state, and local policies about how technology will impact their use of technology in the classroom. During your time in EDTE 370 you will investigate how these policies can develop the conditions necessary for teachers to integrate technology effectively. You will also examine the social, ethical, and legal issues that are raised when schools and teachers bring technology into the instructional context. Students in this class will engage in hands-on activities and interactive lectures. Students will also learn to organize technology integration events and professional development, create their technology leadership portfolio, and learn to write grants to support their future classroom technology initiatives.
