In this project, Dr. Serena Shim collaborated with a team of researchers in science education, technology education, biology, and civic engineering. The project developed and tested the efficacy of a socio-scientific issue-based learning program titled, “ENACT” (Engage in Socio-scientific issues; Navigate SSIs; Anticipate consequences; Conduct scientific and engineering practice; Take action) and piloted a new measure, “Social Responsibility of Scientists/Engineers: Perception of College Students in STEM fields.” Serena will share the progress and the achievements of the project.

Dr. Serena Shim is a professor in the Department of Educational Psychology. She has investigated the characteristics of schools, teachers, parents, and peers as related to students’ motivation, achievement, and overall school adjustment. Extending her program of research, she is currently investigating teacher motivation and other personality traits related to their own well-being and job satisfaction, as well as student learning outcomes.
