Effects of Varied Grade and Speed on Downhill Running Muscular Activation, Joint Loading, and Gait Characteristics
Why:
To assess muscular activation, joint loading, and gait characteristics of runners at different speeds in level running and various gradients of downhill running.
You may qualify if you:
- Are between 18 and 35 years old
- Run a minimum of 15 miles run per week for the past 2 months
- Have no history of lower extremity injury which prevented running within the last 2 months
- Have no chronic musculoskeletal or neurological condition
- Have not had any reconstruction surgery in the lower extremity
Where:
- Biomechanics Laboratory at Ball State University (HP 309/311)
- Parking will be available if coming from off campus
What you will be doing:
- You will be asked to complete one data collection session lasting approximately 1.5-2 hours
- You will run level and downhill running trials on 4 different gradients at 3 different speeds (6.7, 7.8, 8.9 mph) for
approximately 60 seconds per trial with ample rest in between each condition - All participants who complete the collection will receive a $20 Tango giftcard at the completion of the study
