The offices of Travel, Risk Management, Study Abroad, and Research are pleased to announce revisions to the International Travel Policy, Chapter 4 of the Travel Policy posted here, for the upcoming academic year that we hope will simplify and speed the approval process for travel to locations designated with a travel advisory Level 3 and above by the U.S. Department of State (DoS).

As always, please keep in mind that if you are traveling internationally for work for any reason, whether you are requesting reimbursement or not, you must register your travel both in Chrome River and Terra Dotta in advance of that travel.  You can access both applications in the additional tools section of my.bsu.edu.  As always, register at least one week before the scheduled departure for all other travel to DoS designated Level 1 or Level 2 countries. However, for Level 3 travel, we have removed the previously mandatory 45-day advance deadline for registering your travel.  Instead, we ask that you enter your travel as soon as you are aware it is occurring, whenever that may be, as long as it is prior to travel and leaves time for review.  We have also moved to an administrative review of Level 3 travel, which will speed approvals for you as you plan your trip!  Finally, we have revised the policy to allow for Level 4 travel that is deemed institutionally beneficial and meets our strategic imperatives, although you’ll want to read through these requirements carefully and plan these trips well in advance.

Furthermore, if you will be traveling to a Level 3 area with students, please review this process carefully as well. You’ll want to request travel approval at the time you are proposing your study abroad program through the Office of Study Abroad.
