Summary of the study
The purpose of this study is to explore how graduate students and faculty members learn, teach, and engage with qualitative research. The study examines students’ backgrounds and preparedness levels, the challenges and opportunities they encounter, and faculty members’ instructional and supervisory experiences. Participation is voluntary. You will complete an online survey (approximately 10 minutes) and participate in a virtual in-depth interview (approximately 60–90 minutes).
Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria Students:
You are eligible if you are at least 18 years old, a past or current graduate student at Ball State University who has completed at least one qualitative research course, has been mentored, and/or has been supervised in qualitative research. Faculty: You are eligible if you are a faculty member who teaches qualitative research courses and/or supervises graduate students conducting qualitative research for master’s theses and/or doctoral dissertations.

Your contact information will be used only for scheduling purposes and will not be included in any research reports, presentations, or publications.
Risks/Benefits
This study involves no more than minimal risk. You may experience mild discomfort when reflecting on academic challenges, coursework, teaching, or supervision. You may not receive a direct personal benefit. You may find it useful to reflect on your experiences. Your responses may help improve qualitative research education and contribute to instructional resources for graduate students and faculty.
