Research participants needed (instructors and professional staff!) – “Legislation Affecting Academic Freedom and Organizational Trust” (IRB No. IRB-FY2025-117)

March 12, 2025

All Ball State instructors, professional staff, and administrators are invited to participate in this BSU IRB-approved survey! This survey seeks to gather current instructor (faculty and any employee with an instructional role), administrator, and professional staff reports regarding their experiences at Ball State, experiences with SB 202/PL 113 implementation at Ball State University, and current pending legislation to provide a more nuanced and timely picture of faculty morale and the effect of legislation on academic freedom of expression. Results will be presented to Ball State leadership and used for potential publication in avenues like The Chronicle or Inside Higher Ed.

Who can participate?

  • Anyone employed at Ball State with an instructional role (part- and full-time faculty, graduate instructors of record), professional staff, and/or academic administrators who are 18 and older

What does the survey entail?

  • The survey will take 7-12 minutes to complete
    • Questions are designed to display follow-up questions only if some screening questions are answered with “yes”, therefore the survey may take longer or shorter depending on your experiences
  • You will be asked to provide some demographics, thoughts about your daily work at Ball State, your overall experiences working at Ball State, impact of SB 202/PL 113 on your work, and thoughts about current legislation and university responses.
  • You will be asked non-identifiable demographic information (e.g., role, gender identity, race/ethnicity, years worked at Ball State, and general academic field or unit).
    • Academic fields are grouped rather than identified by department to protect anonymity.
  • The survey will not collect any identifiable information. You may choose not to answer any question that you are uncomfortable with. Participating in this survey will have no bearing on your employment at BSU.
