Registration open for Sept. 14 United Way Day of Action

August 23, 2023

Looking for a wonderful way to give back to this community?

Registration is open for this year’s United Way Day of Action, set for Thursday, Sept. 14.

Ball State faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in one of the many impactful projects this year on or off campus to support the work of Heart of Indiana United Way.

To register, go here.

These are just a few of the activities you can be a part of this year:

Beautify Muncie Schools

Join us at any Muncie Community School to engage in a range of indoor and outdoor tasks—from sorting paperwork to weeding and painting. Many hands make light work, and all skill levels welcome.

This event is in partnership with Muncie Clean and Beautiful and MCS-BSU Connections, which pairs each Ball State College with a Muncie school for collaboration and support. ?

Cardinal Greenway

The Cardinal Greenway provides more than 60 miles of paved trail for healthy outdoor activity. Tasks will include various activities such as, trash pickup, cleaning, painting benches, etc. at one of numerous sites along the greenway.

?Emerson Dog Park Project

Help to increase the attractiveness of our local dog park. Volunteers will help build and install a large protective shelter over two picnic tables. In addition, we will freshen up planters that were installed during the 2019 Day of Action. The dog park is a walkable distance from campus, behind Fraternity Row.??

Snack Attack (on campus)

Assemble over 1,000 snack packs for local elementary schools to distribute to kids who rely on school meals and snacks for basic nutrition.

Warmth for Winter (on campus)

Put together fleece blankets children. Items will be donated to local shelters. No experience necessary.

There are also ways to get in on the “action” BEFORE Sept. 14.

Hygiene Product Drive

Bring unused personal hygiene products (e.g., travel shampoos, soap, body wash, toothpaste) to share with local shelters and schools. Collection sites across campus will be available through Sept. 11. New items needed include blankets, pillows, toiletries, razors, hand wipes, maxi pads and undergarments.

Used Book Drive

Donate gently used books for all ages to help Muncie BY5 stock more than 35 Little Free Libraries in Delaware County. Collection boxes will be available at various locations on campus through Sept. 11.
