The Office of Inclusive Excellence, Ball State University Libraries, Friends of Bracken Library, the Multicultural Center, and the Office of the Provost are excited to present a screening of the 2017 film Show Me Democracy as part of Reel Inclusion: A Film Series. This synchronous online film screening takes place at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 15 via Zoom. Directed by Dan Parris, this film documents the experiences of 7 St. Louis-area college student activists as they participate in The Scholarship Foundation’s Education Policy Internship Program in the wake of the killing of Michael Brown Jr. by Ferguson, Missouri police and subsequent protests. The film examines these students’ participation in both political protest and political advocacy as means of engaging in democracy to combat systemic racism and anti-immigration policy.
The film includes depictions of violence and R-rated language.
Following the film will be a discussion at 7:10 p.m. facilitated by Dr. Ruby Cain (Associate Professor of Practice, Adult & Community Education), Dr. Rona Robinson-Hill (Assistant Professor of Biology), and Ball State University students.
