Recreational golfers needed!

“EVALUATING UPPER BODY STRENGTH AND MOBILITY AND GOLF PERFORMANCE IN RECREATIONAL GOLFERS”

IRB # 2132457-1

Participants are needed for a research study conducted by Ben VonGunten in the Biomechanics Laboratory at Ball State University under the supervision of Dr. Clark Dickin.

Why:

  • To assess upper body power and mobility and its relationship to golf performance and mechanics.

Who:

  • Anyone between the ages of 18-30 and be considered a recreational golfer (average nine holes of golf every two weeks during the summer months).
  • You must be free from orthopedic or neurological conditions that would limit their ability to swing a golf club at maximal effort.

What:

  • You will be asked to complete a Golfing and Health History Questionnaire
  • You will be required to wear compressive clothing during testing (provided by Ball State Biomechanics Laboratory)
  • You will be asked to complete one data collection session
  • Complete 5-10 full golf driver swings in the Ball State Biomechanics motion capture laboratory. You will be asked to complete a series of movements that will assess your overall shoulder and trunk range of motion and strength while both standing and sitting. These tests will include rotational motions and trunk flexion and extension. You will also perform a series of movements that will assess your overall upper body strength. These tests will include a rotational medicine ball throw and plyometric push-up. We will also assess the speed and mechanics of the golf swing using the motion capture system.  We will also assess the speed and mechanics of the golf swing using the motion capture system. The single data collection will take approximately 60-90 minutes to complete.

Where:

  • Biomechanics Laboratory at Ball State University (HP 309/311)
  • Parking available if coming from off campus
