The First Year Seminar (FYS) Mentorship Program is seeking motivated upper-level students for the Fall 2026 semester. Students will work as Peer Mentors in Ball State First Year Seminars and help first-year students transition to college life.
Students interested in becoming a Peer Mentor will need to contact an Academic Advisor to add EDHI 303 to their schedule (permission is required) and complete an application. Students must have completed at least one semester at Ball State University and have strong interpersonal skills, ability to multitask, and knowledge of campus resources. EDHI 303 is a 1-credit-hour leadership course. Students will gain hands-on experience in Small Group Facilitation, Strategic Communication, One-on-one relationships, and Reflective Practice. Participation will allow student/peer mentors to build their network, enhance their resume, and earn college credit toward their degree. Commitment & Requirements:
Time: 4-5 hours per week (1 hour in EDHI 303, 1 hour in a First Year Seminar classroom, and 2-3 hours of prep/outreach)
