Preparing for the New IRB Platform to Launch Next Week

November 12, 2024

We are transitioning our Human Subjects research (IRB) review platform from IRBNet to Cayuse Human Ethics (HE), we have reminders and new information to share:

  • NEW IRB SUBMISSIONS: IRBNet is still active for IRB submissions/ modifications/ renewals (i.e., continuing reviews). However, starting Monday January 6, 2025, all submissions will be made in Cayuse. For modifications and renewals to approved studies in IRBNet, you will resubmit to Cayuse by re-entering the study information in completion.

  • IRBNet MATERIALS:  A reminder to download and save all your IRBNet applications/materials/approval letters for your currently approved and active studies. You will need these materials for your own records, and to enter in Cayuse HE for modifications and renewals.
    • For each of your studies in IRBNet, go to the “Designer” and download each of the documents. In addition, click on “Reviews” to download the approval letter(s). A video demonstrating this process is available here.
    • Note that while you may not submit new studies in IRBNet after January 5th, you may continue to access the system to download your records through the Spring 2025 term.

  • ACCESS TO Cayuse HE:  Starting Monday November 18th, faculty and professional staff can start using Cayuse HE for submissions. We will send a follow-up message with the hyperlink to access the system.
    • Students will obtain access to Cayuse HE via a request form, starting January 6th.
      • However, an important reminder of our IRB policy: Principal Investigators (PIs) must be faculty or professional staff.  For all student projects, including theses and dissertations, the faculty PI is responsible for oversight of all activities and is required to certify that the application is complete and accurate, and complies with all applicable regulations.
    • Note to current users of Cayuse SP/S2S (Sponsored Projects):  Cayuse HE is a separate platform exclusively for Human Subjects (IRB) applications, with the unique log-in link we will provide when we go live.

  • TRAINING AND SUPPORT are available: Contact Dr. Michael Tagler (mjtagler@bsu.edu), Chair of the IRB and our Cayuse HE Ambassador, for questions or to schedule a consultation.
    • Online live zoom training sessions will be held starting the week of November 18th and continue through the Spring semester. Look for these Learning and Development sessions to be posted and announced on the Comm Center.
    • In addition, the Office of Research Integrity website will be updated with new Cayuse HE information.
