Employment recruiters want to hire you! Be sure to plan for the Cardinal Job Fair on Wednesday, February 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Worthen Arena.
Here are some tips for when you attend the job fair:
- Dress like you would for an interview. First impressions are important, so be thoughtful when selecting an outfit for the fair. Cardinal Closet is a free professional clothing resource for students. Check out our styling event on February 8 on Cardinal Career Link.
- Have your résumé approved through VMock on Cardinal Career Link and uploaded prior to the fair. Bring your approved résumé to pass out to employers.
- Introduce yourself and be prepared to give your “career pitch”.
- Research the employers who will be attending prior to the career fair. Learn pertinent details about the employers such as location, type of employment they are seeking, transferable skills they prefer, and more on the Career Fair Plus app.
- Collect employer contact information. The job fair is a great networking opportunity. Be sure to follow up with employers you connected with 24-48 hours after the job fair.
- Be enthusiastic. Everyone loves to meet someone who is excited about what they do.
- Connect with a Career Coach. Setting up an appointment with a Career Coach is a great way to get additional advice before the fair. You can schedule an appointment on Cardinal Career Link.
Don’t forget to have your résumé reviewed at least two days before the fair! Upload your résumé to VMock, our 24/7 online résumé review tool that leverages technologies like data science, machine learning, and natural language processing to provide instant, personalized feedback on your résumé based on criteria gathered from employers and global best practices. Access VMock by logging in to Cardinal Career Link. Students can also sign up for Prepare for the Job Fair workshops through Cardinal Career Link.
If any students are in need of professional clothing they can sign up for our free styling event on February 8 at Kinghorn Hall. Have them log in to Cardinal Career Link and sign up for a 15-minute styling session where they will receive new professional clothing. Learn more about Cardinal Closet HERE.
