Dear Students:
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from 7 a.m. Sunday, January 5, 2025 through 7 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2025 and are forecasting with increasing confidence a significant winter weather event this weekend. A safe return to campus is important to the University and as such, Housing and Residence Life will open all residence halls at noon, Saturday, January 4, 2025 to allow students to arrive on campus prior to the onset of the forecasted winter storm. We encourage all students to monitor their local winter weather and travel advisories prior to traveling back to campus this weekend.
- New students to housing should plan to check in between 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025 or anytime after 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
- Returning students may arrive back to the halls beginning at noon on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
Dining
- Please note that while residence halls will open on Saturday for your safe return to campus, dining options will NOT be available on campus until Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 11:00 am. Please plan for your lunch and/or dinner on Saturday, January 5 accordingly.
- Woodworth Dining and North Dining will open at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025 and Tom John’s Food Shop will open at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Shuttle Service
- The modified green loop will be running on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- The Sunday modified green loop will run Sunday, January 5, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. instead of the normal 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. schedule.
- On Sunday, January 5, 2025 – there will be no shuttle service after 6:00 p.m.
Parking
Parking enforcement will begin on Sunday evening, January 5, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.
General Campus Weather Information
While the University will do all it can to clear pathways, streets, and walkways during winter weather events, please remember that during for winter weather events where campus remains open and classes are held, you should remain aware of the weather conditions and exercise caution for your safety as you traverse campus.
You should always assume the University is open for regularly scheduled classes and business unless there is a notice of change to campus operations. In the rare event that winter weather leads to a campus closure of suspension of classes for all or part of the day, the University will notify you through the following channels:
- bsu.edu: The University website is the official source for information about campus closures. It is updated as soon as new information becomes available.
- Emergency text messaging: Subscribe now.
- X (formerly Twitter) @ballstate_alert
- Email to Ball State accounts
- Local media: The Star Press, WBST-FM 92.1, WLBC-FM 104.1, and other radio stations
- Indianapolis TV stations (Note: The amount of information that can be publicized on TV stations is extremely limited.)
