Study Title: Identifying changes in cognitive control abilities and audiovisual integration during the progression of tinnitus (IRB Net #: 1916536-1)
Who can participate?
- Women and men between the ages of 18-64
- With recent-onset tinnitus (ringing in the ears for less than 6 months)
- Speakers of Native American English
- Normal hearing
- Normal middle ear function
- No history of traumatic brain injury, Meniere's disease, vestibular schwannoma, meningioma, post-traumatic stress disorder, neurological disorders including epilepsy, other psychological disorders except for currently managed depression and/or anxiety
- No history of medical condition or taking medications that can affect cognitive functioning
- Normal or corrected-to-normal vision
What will I do in the study?
- Individuals interested in participating will be screened via email/phone before being invited to partake in the study, which involves
- Behavioral assessment, with the inclusion of questionnaires and a comprehensive hearing evaluation (2 hours)
- Cognitive testing and electroencephalogram (EEG), which include tests that assess verbal and non-verbal skills, and the recording of EEG while processing auditory or visual stimuli (2 hours)
- After your initial participation in the study, you will be contacted 6 months later to repeat behavioral assessment, cognitive testing, and EEG
Where does the testing occur?
- Testing takes place at Ball State University: Health Professions Building (HPB 267, 268, 269) and/or North Quad Building (NQ 70)
Will I be compensated for my participation?
- Yes! Participants will be compensated for their participation
