Paid High Impact & Immersive Learning Summer Opportunities for Faculty!

March 19, 2025

Faculty: we have several opportunities this summer to start or continue your high impact practice learning journey. Our programs are mostly online/self-paced to fit into your summer schedule. Please be sure to review all of the program requirements and details on Infoready. Spots are limited; apply now!

HIPs Curriculum Mapping Teams ($500 RIA), Applications due Aprill 11
The mapping teams work on documenting when and where high-impact courses exist and could exist within departmental undergraduate programs. This allows departments to coordinate their efforts so students have the opportunity to take high-impact courses during their time at Ball State (a strategic goal) and to coordinate thoughtfully so that students are not taking several high-impact courses within the same semester. Mapping teams should have 2-4 colleagues from the same department; teams submit one application. Teams will be asked to attend a large-group in-person kick-off meeting in May; map HIPs curriculum in their programs; attend a check-in meeting in August (Zoom); and submit a summary of work and proposed changes by December. Each participant will receive $500 in RIA funds upon submission of the report. Priority will go to departments who have not previously had a team. Apply (as a team) on Infoready: https://ballstate.infoready4.com/#competitionDetail/1942214

Summer Scholarship Grant ($2000), Application due May 9
The Offices of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Immersive Learning are pleased to announce a summer incentive program that supports faculty writing and submitting scholarly work related to immersive learning or other high-impact classes. This incentive program is open to all full-time Ball State faculty who have taught a "core four" high-impact undergraduate course with the Banner attribute in recent years and are drawing on their high-impact teaching experience to complete an article, chapter, or longer manuscript. Faculty who are accepted into the program will receive $2000 to support their summer writing time. Please see details on Infoready: https://ballstate.infoready4.com/#competitionDetail/1942213

Immersive Learning Mini-Course ($250 RIA), Application due May 9
The Office of Immersive Learning is offering a self-paced, three-week online course for faculty members interested in teaching immersive learning courses in a future semester. This training covers immersive learning basics, such as how to find a community partner, develop a project idea, and navigate available university resources. The course will open on May 19 and will close on June 9. This opportunity is open to all current, full-time Ball State instructors (tenure-line or non-tenure-line). Faculty who complete all course modules, assignments, and discussion boards within the three-week period will receive $250 in their Research Incentive Account. To register, complete the application on Infoready: https://ballstate.infoready4.com/#competitionDetail/1941931

High Impact Practices Mini-Course ($250 RIA), Application due June 20
This online mini-course is appropriate for faculty at Ball State who would like to embed high-impact practices (undergraduate research, immersive learning, study abroad/away, or diverse perspectives) into a course they teach. The course will introduce faculty to the research on high-impact practices, the progress made in implementing HIPs at Ball State, and the course listing and assessment procedures for faculty teaching HIP classes. The course will be open during the month of July and will be primarily self-paced and asynchronous. We will have one synchronous meeting (via Zoom) at the end of the course to share final products and reflections. Participants who complete the mini-course will receive $250 in their RIA. To register, complete the application on Infoready: https://ballstate.infoready4.com/#competitionDetail/1941914

Reach High Impact Ambassador Status ($1500), Application due July 1
To reach our strategic imperative--that all undergraduate students take a quality high impact course while at Ball State--requires faculty who devote time and energy to developing and refining these classes and their teaching. The HIPs Ambassador recognition aims to reward and make visible faculty who have devoted their time and have become campus experts on high impact practices. Recipients of HIPs Ambassador status will receive a $1500 stipend, be listed on the HIPs Ambassador website (with a link to their HIPs resource), and be known as a resource to other faculty who are developing high impact practices.
