Operationalizing Wisdom: A Peer-Mentorship Faculty Development Seminar for Beyond-Inexperienced Pedagogues

September 15, 2025

If you would like to talk about a course or unit redesign with talented and beyond-inexperienced peers, this faculty development seminar is for you. Applications are due Sept. 29. Click HERE to apply.

This seminar is for “beyond-inexperienced” participants, yet we have no litmus test for who such a person might be. Informally, we’ve used the colloquialism “Old Dogs Teaching Other Old Dogs New Tricks” to describe the seminar, but you don’t have to be old, nor be a dog to participate. In the first meeting, the group will think together about a reading or two provided by the facilitators. Also in the first meeting, drawing on participants’ experience and interests, the group will collectively decide what to read and discuss next. The final day will see participants workshopping new ideas with their peers. Informed by what they learn, each participant will submit a brief report describing a pedagogical innovation they will implement during the 2026 calendar year. This report should include documents that will be used in that implementation. The report is due a week after the seminar concludes.

This seminar has a compact timeframe. In-person meetings will be held in the Student Center on Oct. 10, 13, 17, 20, 24, and 27 from 3:00pm to 4:30pm, with reading prior to each meeting. Please consider whether you have the time available in that specific time frame to fully participate before applying. This seminar is also a qualifying event for the VPAA 2025-2026 Passport Program (Full-time faculty may earn a $250 deposit in their Recognized Incentive Activity account for completing four or more events).
