The Office of Immersive Learning invites you to view the Provost Immersive Learning award-winning “Midwestern Stories” exhibit. This student-curated panel exhibit was created in partnership with Minnetrista Cultural Center and was exhibited during the summer of 2020. The exhibit has toured locally and will make its last stop at BSU’s North Quad lobby (facing the quad) on Wednesday, February 8, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Drs. Kathryn Ludwig and Andrea Wolfe will be also available during the exhibit to answer questions about their two-semester immersive project.

About the exhibit:

The Midwest is host to diverse people and experiences. The Midwestern Stories exhibit invites visitors to take a fresh look at a familiar space. Explore the complex landscape that is alternately celebrated as America’s Heartland and derided as “Flyover Country.” Listen to excerpts from the "Stories from the Heartland" podcast series at the exhibit's listening station. View exhibit panels sharing accounts of Native American persistence, a program to amplify young Black voices, and a refugee’s pursuit of a new home and community in the Midwest. Learn about musicians who rallied the nation to support farmers during the Farm Crisis and makers and artists who are reclaiming blighted industrial spaces. Consider how well your experiences align with representations of the Midwest in popular shows like Stranger Things and Parks and Recreation and engage friends in debates about what counts as “Midwest(ern).”
