Online Writing Time for Graduate Students!

April 30, 2024

First, new this summer, we are hosting weekly writing times for graduate students. This event, called Write On, is a great way to help graduate students face the unstructured sea of time that summer can be. It can help them connect with other writers, practice setting a schedule and creating manageable goals, and feel a sense of community in what can be an isolating time of the year.

During the first summer session, we will hold Write On every Thursday from 2-4 pm via Zoom (click to register):

Thursday, May 16, 2-4 pm Eastern
Thursday, May 23, 2-4 pm Eastern
Thursday, May 30, 2-4 pm Eastern
Thursday, June 6, 2-4 pm Eastern
Thursday, June 13, 2-4 pm Eastern

These events take place entirely over Zoom. Graduate students may register for one or all events. Attendees should come prepared with writing projects to work on. The bootcamps involve structured writing time for attendees, as well as practical tips for goal setting and time management. They’re a great fit for students working on longer projects like theses and dissertations.

Our second form of graduate student writing support is 1-1 appointments at the Writing Center! This summer, we will be available online and in person in Bracken Library from 12-8, Monday through Thursday. Encourage your students to make recurring appointments to make the most of their writing time this summer. Writers can make up to three appointments a week for everything from writing feedback to accountability appointments that help writers stay on-task while working toward a larger goal. All in all, this means that graduate writers can get up to five hours a week of structured writing support by making use of the Writing Center.

Please pass this information along to graduate students you work with and advise. We’d love to see them at our events or in the Center!
