Online Writing Time for Graduate Students!

April 30, 2024

Nervous about meeting your writing goals this summer? The Writing Center can help! New this summer, we will hold Write On, our online writing time for graduate students, every week! These loosely-structured, virtual writing times will help you connect with other writers, practice setting a schedule and creating manageable goals, and feel a sense of community in what can be an isolating time of the year.

During the first summer session, we will hold Write On every Thursday from 2-4 pm via Zoom (click to register):

Thursday, May 16, 2-4 pm Eastern
Thursday, May 23, 2-4 pm Eastern
Thursday, May 30, 2-4 pm Eastern
Thursday, June 6, 2-4 pm Eastern
Thursday, June 13, 2-4 pm Eastern

These events take place entirely over Zoom. Graduate students may register for one or all events. Attendees should come prepared with writing projects to work on. The bootcamps involve structured writing time for attendees, as well as practical tips for goal setting and time management. They’re a great fit for students working on longer projects like theses and dissertations.

The Writing Center at Ball State is also open in the summer! We’ll be available online and in person in Bracken Library from 12-8, Monday through Thursday. One of our most popular appointment options for graduate students are “accountability appointments,” which–much like Write On–provide structured time for you to work, while a tutor helps you stay on task. You can make up to three appointments a week, and if you find a tutor you like, you can have recurring appointments with them every week. If you’re nervous about meeting your writing goals this summer, between appointments and Write On, the Writing Center can provide you with a combined total of 5 hours of supported writing time!

Please take advantage of these writing resources to help you succeed this summer! If you have questions or want to make an appointment to get 1-1 writing support, find us online at ballstate.mywconline.com, contact us by email at writing@bsu.edu, or call the Writing Center at 765-285-8370.

See you soon!
