This semester, the David Owsley Museum of Art is proud to host the traveling exhibition Memories & Inspiration: The Kerry and C. Betty Davis Collection of African American Art in the museum's Special Exhibitions Galleries (upstairs). The extraordinary show features more than sixty works of art - including paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures - by artists such as Romare Bearden, Beverly Buchanan, Elizabeth Catlett, Sam Gilliam, Loïs Mailou Jones, Jacob Lawrence, Gordon Parks, Alma Thomas, and Charles White. This exhibition was organized and toured by International Arts & Artists, Washington, D.C., and is made possible with support from Arts Alive, presented by the College of Fine Arts.
Also on view: African American Art at the David Owsley Museum of Art: Past, Present, and Future in the museum's Brown Study Room (downstairs). This companion exhibition of works from the DOMA collection features artists such as Joseph Delaney, Marion Epting, Richard Hunt, Jacob Lawrence, Martin Puryear, Darius Steward, and Dox Thrash, and includes many recent acquisitions as well as several works on paper not typically on display for conservation reasons.
At 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, DOMA director Dr. Robert G. La France will give an overview tour of both exhibitions for educators and museum friends; all are welcome, but pre-registration is appreciated.
