The Counseling Center is excited to announce two new services! The Counseling Center will be offering brief meetings for Ball State Student, Faculty, and Staff located in Indiana. The meetings for students are called Let’s Talk, and for faculty and staff are called Chat With Us.
What is Let’s Talk and Chat With Us?
Let’s Talk and Chat With Us provide easy access to a one-time, informal, confidential, and free conversation with a Counseling Center staff member. This is not treatment or therapy and does not replace traditional counseling.
How do I schedule a meeting?
Call the Counseling Center (765-285-1736) and request a Let’s Talk meeting (for students) or a Chat With Us meeting (for faculty and staff). Appointments are first-come, first-served.
What happens at a visit?
The Counseling Center staff member will listen closely to your concerns and provide support, perspective, and suggestions for resources.
How is this different from treatment or therapy?
Let’s Talk and Chat With Us are not formal therapy or treatment. These are a brief (20 minute) informal conversations with a Counseling Center staff member via Zoom or phone. Let’s Talk and Chat With Us are NOT appropriate for urgent or crisis services.
Who should use these meetings?Let’s Talk and
Chat With Us are a good fit for people who:
- Are not sure about counseling and wonder what it’s like to talk with a Counseling Center staff member
- Are not interested in ongoing counseling but would like the perspective of a Counseling Center staff member
- Have a specific problem and would like to talk it through with a Counseling Center staff member
- Have a concern about another person and want some thoughts about what to do
I think I have a problem that would benefit from therapy, but I don’t know anything about therapy. Would going to this help me figure out what to do?Absolutely. The Counseling Center staff member will talk through your issue and help you determine the best way to get help.
Are Let’s Talk and Chat With Us meetings confidential? Are there any limits to confidentiality?
Conversations are confidential. However, we may need to get you help if we are concerned about your safety or the safety of others. If you have further questions about confidentiality, discuss them with a Counseling Center staff member.
