New Counseling Center Service for Ball State Students

October 19, 2020
The Counseling Center is excited to announce a new service for students called Let’s Talk that will be starting the week of October 16th!

What is Let’s Talk?
Let’s Talk provides easy access to a one-time, informal, confidential, and free conversation with a Counseling Center therapist. This is not treatment or therapy and does not replace traditional counseling.

How do I schedule a Let’s Talk meeting?

Call the Counseling Center (765-285-1736) and request a Let’s Talk meeting. Appointments are first-come, first-served.

What happens at a visit?
The therapist will listen closely to your concerns and provide support, perspective, and suggestions for resources.

How is Let’s Talk different from treatment or therapy?
Let’s Talk is not formal therapy or treatment. It is a brief (20 minute) informal conversations with a clinician via Zoom or phone. Let’s Talk is NOT appropriate for urgent or crisis services.

Who should use Let’s Talk Consultation?
Let’s Talk is a good fit for students who:
• Are not sure about counseling and wonder what it’s like to talk with a therapist
• Are not interested in ongoing counseling but would like the perspective of a therapist
• Have a specific problem and would like to talk it through with a therapist
• Have a concern about a friend and want some thoughts about what to do

I think I have a problem that would benefit from therapy, but I don’t know anything about therapy. Would going to Let’s Talk help me figure out what to do?
Absolutely. The therapist will talk through your issue and help you determine the best way to get help.

Are Let’s Talk meetings confidential? Are there any limits to confidentiality?
Conversations with Let’s Talk therapists are confidential. However, we may need to get you help if we are concerned about your safety or the safety of others. If you have further questions about confidentiality, discuss them with a Let’s Talk therapist.
