New CoP Available: DeColonize Your Syllabus - Apply Now!

August 19, 2021

The Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, as part of the Faculty Excellence Center, is happy to host a Community of Practice (CoP) regarding Decolonizing our syllabi and research in Fall 2021. The CoP will focus primarily on settler colony structures.

The CoP is one of many steps taken by Ball State to support institutional and inclusive excellence. Find out more information about those commitments by reading the strategic plan and the Inclusive Excellence Plan. Members of the CoP will meet (most likely face-to-face) every other week throughout the fall semester and will receive $750 after all work is completed. There will be a follow up opportunity in the Spring for those that completed the Fall work.

The CoP will:

  • Discuss best practices and key literature regarding dismantling settler colonialism, land acknowledgements, and diversifying course and research content
  • Privilege local indigenous voices and experiences by bringing in guest presenters and experts
  • Create community and support among individual campus stakeholders
  • Begin work on a campus action plan
  • Partner with a local grant

The application can be found here and is due by August 30th. Please note that all faculty members must consult with their department chairs to be considered for this opportunity. Staff members should consult with their supervisors.

All questions may be directed to Kristen McCauliff.
