How do you know if you are joining a new church or a cult? Is there an easy way to tell if a charismatic pastor is really a cult leader? What internal and external pressures might cause a religious organization to turn violent? In Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple, survivors and relatives of the Peoples Temple reveal to complex journey of Jim Jones and his interracial congregation as they moved from Indianapolis to California to Guyana. As we watch the film, we will pause occasionally to discuss the groups’ evolution and highlight the lessons we should (and shouldn’t) take from the life and death of Peoples Temple.

Snacks will be provided! All are welcome. See below for the upcoming films.

February 17 "Network" with Dr. Sarah Vitale
February 24 "Who is in Control? The Brain with
David Eagleman" with Dr. Jeff Fry
