As we prepare for the Spring 2026 midterm grade and progress reporting period, we want to share an important clarification related to how letter grades appear in EAB Navigate and how faculty choice remains central to this process.
How Letter Grades Appear in Navigate
For a letter grade to automatically populate in Navigate, a grading scheme must be active in Canvas for the course.
When a grading scheme is enabled in Canvas, the corresponding letter grade flows directly into Navigate.
When a grading scheme is not enabled, Navigate will display only a percentage, and a letter grade will need to be selected manually.
Faculty Autonomy Remains Central
To support instructional autonomy and varied grading practices:
Faculty decide whether or not to associate a grading scheme in Canvas.
There is no requirement to enable a grading scheme.
The Tradeoff to Be Aware Of
No grading scheme = no letter grade automatically populated in Navigate.
Active grading scheme = a simpler, faster midterm grade submission process.
Enabling a grading scheme reduces duplicate entry and streamlines reporting, making it easier to submit midterm grades while ensuring students receive timely academic feedback.
