Join us for the 2026 McGovern Lecture Series featuring The Honorable Alex M. Azar II, 24th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The McGovern Lecture will occur on Monday, February 16 at 7:00 PM in the LA Pittenger Student Center Ballroom at Ball State University.
Secretary Azar brings extensive healthcare leadership experience from both the government and the private sector. He served as the 24th U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (2018–2021) and led Operation Warp Speed, accelerating the development and delivery of COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics. During his tenure, he advanced major public health initiatives, including reducing youth tobacco and e-cigarette use, launching the national plan to end the HIV epidemic, strengthening rural health, improving maternal health, and responding to emerging public health threats.
He currently serves on several boards and is an Adjunct Professor and Distinguished Executive-in-Residence at the University of Miami Herbert Business School. His previous roles include president of Lilly USA and Deputy Secretary and General Counsel of HHS.
