Marilynn Quick Sabbatical Lecture

April 11, 2022

You’re invited to the final event in the 2021-2022 Teachers College Dean’s Lecture Series, which takes place on Thursday, April 14, from 2-3 p.m., in TC 1008, with Dr. Marilynn Quick’s Sabbatical Lecture: “From Toilet Seats to Options: Elementary Teachers and Math.”

In this two-part presentation, Dr. Marilynn Quick delves deeper into 1) a turnaround model developed to improve elementary mathematics achievement when Dr. Quick served as a school leader and later as a consultant to "failing schools" and 2) a recent mixed methods study of Indiana elementary school teachers and their personal math experiences during their K-12 school years, pre-service preparation, and current comfort level in teaching math. One urban teacher’s story centers on a toilet seat and represents a vivid theme about elementary teachers and their source of math anxiety.

Dr. Marilynn Quick has more than 40 years of experience as an educator in the state, with 30 years in P-12 schools as a teacher and administrator. She has served from kindergarten through the superintendency. Dr. Quick joined the faculty at Ball State in 2002. Her research focuses on school improvement processes, teacher evaluation, and leadership.
