Tired of the "post once, and reply to two others" instructions in online discussions? Then join instructional consultant Sue Husted as she shares alternative discussion structures, including lecture reflection, case studies, video analysis, online debate, and student showcases.

After attending the one-hour Studio, participants will "take home":
  1. Five pre-built, adaptable, Canvas discussion templates to import into a course. The templates include assignment rationale, possible objectives, clear instructions, grading criteria w/grading rubric, links to student support resources, and example posts to guide students.
  2. Instructor notes to help plan and implement the alternative strategies in a Canvas course.
  3. Best practices for facilitating, monitoring, and grading Canvas discussions.
  4. A standing invitation to work virtually, one-on-one with Sue to import, adapt, and deploy your alternative discussion strategy in a Canvas course.
Upon completion of the studio, successful participants will be able to:
  • Evaluate multiple discussion strategies for course adoption.
  • Adapt discussions to align with course goals and objectives.
  • Identify and mitigate unique challenges when online discussions are present.
