Latest ‘Our Call to Beneficence’ episode features Grammy and Oscar awards winner, Tiara Thomas ’12

Check out the latest episode of Ball State’s monthly podcast “Our Call to Beneficence.” This episode’s featured guest is Grammy and Oscar winning graduate Tiara Thomas. Ms. Thomas, a singer-songwriter, graduated from Ball State in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications. In March 2021, Ms. Thomas won her first Grammy award for co-writing the 2020 Song of the Year, "I Can’t Breathe," with singer-songwriter H.E.R. The following month, “Fight for You,” another song co-written by Ms. Thomas and H.E.R., won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.  

During her interview with podcast host, Ball State President Geoffrey S. Mearns, Ms. Thomas talks about her creative influences growing up, how hard she worked balancing classes with her passion for music as an undergraduate at Ball State, and how this past year gifted her with two unforgettable moments.
