DISNEY CULTURE AND CULTURE IN DISNEY
This course explores how Disney translates its fairy tales into immersive storytelling within theme parks, and how this results in authentic nostalgia tourism experiences. Students in this course will get to experience this themselves during a six-day visit to Walt Disney World to study how Disney represents cultures from all around the world in their theme parks.
The class will visit the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Typhoon Lagoon parks during their visit July 7-12. The visit includes exclusive behind-the-scene opportunities and the group enters the EPCOT and Hollywood Studios parks before any other day guests. Last summer, we were able to ride Remi's Ratatouille and the Tower of Terror before anyone else.
The visit includes two Disney Imagination Campus workshops:
- Immersive storytelling (Animal Kingdom)
- Theme park design (Magic Kingdom)
Do I have to be a student in the honors college?
No. All undergraduate students are welcome. You'll receive permission to enroll. (This course is listed as HONR 390.)
Do I need to sign up soon?
Yes! The deadline for the participation form is February 6. You can request a digital form by email (Robin Blom: rblom@bsu.edu). You can also pick up printed forms at the honors college office in the Ball Honors House as well as in Dr. Blom's office: Art & Journalism (AJ) 285, also known as the Unified Research Lab, located above the atrium food court.
