Last year, Ball State’s University Choral Union opened to university staff, faculty, administrators, and alumni, who joined with student singers to form a choir 75 members strong. This fall, we open that opportunity once again with big plans for the fall semester.
In October, University Choral Union will join with Muncie’s Masterworks Chorale to perform a choral cantata unique to Muncie’s role as Middletown U.S.A. In 2016, the Chorale commissioned new musical settings of texts drawn from the Center for Middletown Studies, words of Muncie residents collected in one of the first sociological studies. Following that innovative project, we will reprise the performance this fall with 150 voices and orchestra working together. In addition, we will premiere a brand new addendum, setting the words of Muncie’s current residents as they reflect on the significant changes in our community over the last decade. In December, University Choral Union will also participate in the iconic Holiday Choral Concerts with all the Ball State Choirs, including another performance with massed choirs and orchestra. Fall performance dates are October 30 and December 6.
Rehearsals are set for Tuesday/Thursday 4:30-5:20, a great way to reset at the end of the workday, starting August 27. Singing is a lifelong activity with demonstrated cognitive, physical, and emotional benefits for people of all ages. Participation is open to faculty, emeriti, staff, administrators, and other BSU affiliates. No prior choir experience is required (but is welcomed, of course). Non-student participants will register through BSU’s Division of Lifetime Learning, for a modest fee of $75
